Port Moody Homes Aren’t All Wired the Same Way
Port Moody is the smallest of the Tri-Cities by area, but ask any electrician who actually works here and they’ll tell you the wiring problems look nothing alike from one street to the next. A condo near the SkyTrain in Moody Centre has different needs than a 1950s detached home in Glenayre, and a hillside property in Heritage Mountain has different needs again. Rebates and Permits Worth Knowing About
If an EV charger is part of the plan, BC Hydro currently rebates up to 50% of the cost of a qualifying Level 2 home charger, to a maximum of $350, for single-family homes, duplexes, and townhomes with dedicated parking. The charger has to be ENERGY STAR certified and installed by a licensed electrician, a DIY install, even a good one, won’t qualify. Two more incentives stack on top: a $200 rebate for an eligible EV power-management device, and a $250 Peak Saver enrollment credit for smart chargers. One thing to flag: as of March 12, 2026, Tesla charging stations are no longer eligible for CleanBC or BC Hydro rebates unless they were purchased or pre-approved before that date. Port Moody, Neighbourhood by Neighbourhood
The City’s own Official Community Plan groups Port Moody into a set of distinct neighbourhood areas, and the electrical work in each tends to follow a pattern.
Transit-connected and condo living: Moody Centre (the city’s heritage-designated downtown core along St. Johns Street), Inlet Centre, and the Newport Village / Suter Brook area are where most of our condo and mixed-use calls come from, in-suite lighting changes, tenant improvements, and EV charger planning for shared parking.
Established detached streets: College Park, Glenayre, Seaview, and Harbour Heights are largely built out from the 1950s through the 1970s. As that housing stock ages, we’re regularly called out for panel upgrades, rewiring, added circuits, and outdoor lighting.
Hillside and heritage properties: Heritage Mountain and Heritage Woods hold larger, newer homes on the north slopes with real appetite for EV chargers and added capacity, while Pleasantside, along the southern, waterfront-facing shore of Burrard Inlet, and Ioco, named for the old Imperial Oil Company site, carry more heritage character and occasionally legacy wiring that needs careful, code-compliant updating.
